To My Fellow Children
In 1869, at the age of eight Rizal wrote his first
poem in the native language entitled “Sa Aking Mga
Kababata”. According to Zaide, this poem reveals Rizal’s
earliest nationalist sentiment. This poem talks about and
the language of a one country and how its people use its
language.
Rizal wrote this poem for us to realize that as time comes by; as a Filipino we should love, be proud, and do not dare to forget our own native’s language. Rizal wants to uplift the spirit of the Filipinos in adoring our own language because loving and using of one’s native language was one of the protection of a true patriot. And that’s what Rizal wants us to become. Being a true patriot is one of the things that may represents our Filipino emblem.
